Sea-air CO2 flux anomalies in the Southern Ocean (PgC/y, >45°S) based on atmospheric CO2 data and inversed transport model (on top) and a global biogeochemical ocean model (bottom). Compared to experiments that do not take into account the climate variability (in red), both approaches suggest a stabilization or reduction of the ocean CO2 sink since the 1980s (Le Quéré et al., 2007[1]).
